Directions
Directions: Preheat oven to 350*. Break into pieces enough bread to halfway fill a generously buttered 9” x 9” pan. A 2.5 qt. stoneware casserole dish works best. Try 8-9 one inch slices of French bread or 4 small hamburger buns. Add more bread for a firmer pudding. Pour contents of packed evenly over bread. Beat 2 egg yolks with 4 cups of milk. Pour this mixture, from side to side, evenly over bread. Do not pour in one spot. Gently push bread down into mixture. Pour 1/3 stick melted butter over top. Bake for 75-80 minutes or until set in the middle. Cool for 15 minutes to allow mixture to thicken.
Variations: Add raisins, pecans or marshmallows to bread before adding mixture. Serve with a simple pecan praline sauce: Mix ½ cup sugar, 2 tbls. dark brown sugar, 2 tbls. butter, 1 tbs. vanilla, ¼ cup water and ¼ cup pecans. Heat to bubbly boil for 1 minute. thicken with a cornstarch/water mixture.
