What is eCheck.Net?
Authorize.Net™s eCheck.Net is a payment solution
that enables us to accept and process electronic check payments
directly from our Web site™s storefront or through the Authorize.Net™s
Virtual Terminal. An electronic check works like a regular check,
only instead of providing payment by physically handing or mailing
a paper check to you, the customer provides the same payment information
that is printed on their paper check so it may be processed electronically.
With eCheck.Net, our customers can pay for products or services
with an electronic check by selecting the electronic check option
and entering the requested bank account information. eCheck.Net
encrypts the data using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) 3.0 encryption
technology, and transmits it to the secure Authorize.Net transaction
server for posting. At settlement time, the Authorize.Net system
initiates a debit to the consumer™s checking account via the
Automated Clearing House (ACH) and then transfers collected funds
to our merchant™s account. The eCheck.Net system notifies
us of failed debit attempts, including “Not Sufficient Funds”
returns.
Processing Time
All eCheck.Net transactions may require 7 Business days to process.
The Automated Clearing House is the electronic network which transfers and clears funds between banking institutions on behalf of merchants and their customers. Each transaction takes approximately 48 hours to clear, and the Automated Clearing House strongly suggest that merchants wait five days from the initial transaction date before shipping any goods. This leaves two days to debit the consumer's account, two days to deposit the funds into the merchant's account, and one day for the bank to post the transaction.
